Pronghorn hunts take place where the landscape is as flat and open as it
gets, which is located in the far Northwestern corner of the Texas Panhandle
near Dalhart and also in the far Northeastern corner of New
Mexico near Clayton. We are very fortunate to have over 70,000 acres to hunt on
in Texas and over 30,000 acres in New Mexico. This amount of land is necessary
to obtain a good number of permits and to have a good selection of big mature
pronghorn. We don't know of any other outfitter that offers a better quality
Pronghorn hunt. These hunts are a lot of fun and they have always been 100%
successful. We have gotten pretty good at field judging these antelope over the
last few years. We consistently kill goats in the high 70's B&C, and we
always kill a few each year that go over the magic 80 inch mark. These "speed
goats" have incredible eyesight and a pretty good nose. Good optics are a must
on this hunt. Antelope can see you coming from a long way away and they can
leave you in the dust.
For 2008 we have decided to use at least three of our larger pastures for
bow hunters only. These areas have water holes that the antelope like to
frequent and we are going to take the rifle hunting pressure away in order to
give our archery clients a better opportunity to kill a big pronghorn. We'll set
up ground blinds weeks ahead of the hunt so that the antelope will be used to
seeing them at their favorite watering spots. There will also
be opportunities to spot and stalk using a decoy for those bow hunters that
really want a challenge.
The Texas season runs from the last Saturday in
September thru the first Sunday in October. The hunt that we sell is a two day
hunt and we can take up to six hunters every two days. We can pick up and drop
off clients at the airport in Amarillo, TX. This short hunt is appealing to many
of our clients because it doesn't require as much time off of work. We use
hotels and restaurants, in Dalhart TX., to provide the meals
and lodging for our hunters because we don't have a lodge in this area.
The New Mexico hunt works exactly like the Texas hunt except we stay and
eat in Clayton, NM. and the hunts are three days instead of two. Historically,
the New Mexico hunt produces higher scoring antelope on average than Texas but
not always. The New Mexico season dates are broken up into two three-day
seasons. The first is the last week of August and the second is in the middle of
September. The closest airport is still in Amarillo, Texas and we will provide
transportation to and from there.
The price of the Texas hunt is $2400.00 and the price of the New Mexico
hunt is $3000.00. If any client is interested in providing their own meals and
lodging, we will discount the price of the hunt by $250.00.
> These prices
include everything mentioned above except the shipping of meat and trophies or
taxidermy work.
